Doctor en Ciencias-Química, Magister en Química y Químico de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia con experiencia en las áreas de Química Orgánica y Química Medicinal de Productos Naturales. Mi trabajo se centra en el estudio de plantas medicinales, bioprospección, obtención de extractos, aislamiento y elucidación estructural de compuestos naturales, así como también la determinación de su actividad antitumoral, a través de diferentes ensayos moleculares y computacionales sobre algunas dianas terapéuticas, específicas en los procesos de muerte celular programada.

Metabolic Profiling of the Soft Coral Erythropodium caribaeorum (Alcyonacea: Anthothelidae) from the Colombian Caribbean Reveals Different Chemotypes

In this work we characterized the diterpene diversity in samples from E. caribaeorum collected at three geographically distinct locations of the Colombian Caribbean Sea—Santa Marta, Islas del Rosario, and Providencia Island. We used metabolic profiling tools such as LC-MS, as well as the isolation and characterization of the main compounds of each chemotype. Additionally, we evaluated the cytotoxic activity of the isolated compounds against human cancer cell lines in order to contribute to the pharmacological evaluation of the compounds produced by this soft coral.
